Korea’s Children's day is a special holiday every year on May 5th to honor and appreciate children’s importance in the society and celebrate their happiness and wellbeing. Children’s day was created by Bang Jeong Hwan who was a children’s rights social activist in 1923. Since then, Children's Day has grown into a big event that is celebrated by many families. There are planned events only for children’s day, with presents and booths children can enjoy.

Schools are closed on children’s day. This means that every child in Korea gets to have a day off, regardless of anything. To give their children a special memory on the day, parents often take them to amusement parks, museums, booths, parks, and go to fancy restaurants. Children’s Day is also a day of presents, parents usually give their child special presents like toys, snacks, and things their child has wanted for a long time — similar to ones that children get on christmas morning.
If you are a parent looking for an ideal place to go during children’s day in seoul there are 2 perfect places to make your child remember this day for years as one of their most cherished memories.
One popular place to visit on children’s day is Seoul children’s museum (서울상상나라) in Seoul Grand Park (서울대공원). The museum is a hands-on learning center where childrens can explore art, chemistry, physics, various jobs, and nature while intersecting with them to increase their engagement. Children can play with water and sand, they can wear costumes to become chefs, police officers, and even cars. Not only this, a children's museum is also a place for children to make friends to socialize with other people. This is a perfect place for your child if your they likes creative things.
Another popular place is the Lotte World. Lotte World (롯데월드) is an amusements park that has both indoor and outdoor parks, meaning even if it is raining, you can still there are still endless activities for your family to enjoy. The park has thrilling rides, beautiful parades and delicious foods, not to mention that Lotte World organizes events and parades just for Children's Day. If your child likes attractions and adventures, then Lotte World is the place for you.
However, something that is more important than the happy experiences of your child, is that this day is meant to be spent with your family. You should not only bring them to these places, but also you have the time to play with them and engage in the same activities as if you were a child too. With this, you will understand the true meaning of Children’s Day: expressing love and making happy memories.
